A Very New Town
Census estimates show about 81% of Harrisburg homes were built in 2000 or later, with a median build year of 2008. Only about 10% predate 1980 (U.S. Census ACS 2020–2024). Most garage floors here are recent pours.
Coating a New Slab
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| How old is the concrete? | New concrete must cure first. Many products ask for about 28 days. Check the data sheet. |
| Did the builder apply a cure-and-seal? | It must be ground off for a coating to bond. |
| Is there a vapor barrier under the slab? | Affects moisture risk. Ask the installer to test. |
| Before or after the first winter? | Coating before salt season protects the surface from day one. |

Before Move-In Is Easiest
If you are buying a new build, ask the installer whether the slab can be coated before you move in, when the garage is empty and the concrete has cured. That avoids moving everything out later.
Workshop Use
For garages used as workshops, ask about thicker systems and chemical-resistant topcoats. Ask whether the warranty covers damage from welding sparks, dropped tools or solvents.

Request a Garage Floor Coating Quote
Two quick questions. An independent coating company that works in your area will contact you to look at the slab and quote it.
